I'm a pre-apprentice and am in the process of studying for my test as well as getting ideas/advice. I went hunting about 8-10 years ago with a falconer around Cartersville, GA who was a firefighter, but I cannot remember his name. He did have two RT's at the time, and I had a great time hunting squirrels with them on his property. Dave H. told me this was a good board to visit for information/contacts, and he was nice enough to let me go hunting with him and Neco today (who bagged two squirrels). There are apparently not too many falconers out on our side of town (I'm about 20 minutes away from Dave), so I haven't had too much luck making any contacts yet.

Brad:
(welc)aboard, we have some other pre-apprentices on site. We have fun and once in a while we poke a little fun at each other. Read a lot of the old post, there is a lot of information in them. :D

Hey Brad

Welcome to the forum. (welc)

When you went hunting with the fireman and his red-tails, did he turn them both loose at once? I know that a lot of falconers over in GA hunt their red-tails in a cast.

Surprisingly, Brad told me that the guy did fly them together. I can't imagine trying to trade TWO red-tails off of a squirrel. I'll stick to one, thanks!

Brad got to see Neco catch two squirrels, but that's about all he got to see, was Neco catching. The chases were very short and to the point. We got both squirrels in 45 mins, and it only took that long because Neco didn't want to let go of the first one (guess because it's been a while since he hunted) and then I had to walk back to the truck to get my bag. There were squirrels running when we pulled up, so I just threw Neco up and went. Didn't grab anything but his lure/trade-off piece.

Welcome to the forums Brad!

Yep, he did fly them in a cast. They worked pretty well together, as best at RT's will. Both were males, they were competitive with one another of getting squirrels, but there wasn't any problem once they grounded the squirrel. The fellow has a nice chunk of acreage out there, so he was able to hunt on his own property.

Maybe we can get up together while I'm down there. Her family owns a bunch of land down there, just not sure what it looks like.

James, sounds like a plan. I can likely come up with a place to fly.

Appreciate the welcomes from everyone. I'm hoping go take the test sometime next week, possibly at the end of this week depending on what I have going on at the office. I work in the tradeshow business so I may not be able to cut loose this week. Too bad they don't do them on the weekend like the ham radio exams do. I did find it interesting that there were some questions in the CHC guide about telemetry and radio use, yagi antennas, etc. If any of you are ham operators, my callsign is AB0G.

Hopefully someone will be willing to show me the true nature of the force, path to enlightenment, etc. If any of you might be interested or know someone who might be willing to help me out, I'd appreciate it.
