View Full Version : Posting pics from a phone/computer- Tutorial

I'm ecstatic that the new, updated NAFEX is making it possible for us to add a picture directly from our computer/phone/device. Now we can put Photobucket in the trash where it belongs.

Here's a quick tutorial (with pics from my phone!) on how to get it done...

First, click this button:

5548

It should give you the option between Computer and URL. Select the 'Computer' tab. After you choose your file, click 'Upload File' despite the fact it doesn't look like a clickable button.

5549

If you've attached your pic successfully, your text box will have this:

5550

There it is, a pic tutorial from the least computer savvy person here.

I don't get computer as a choice, only URL.

Ditto. I'm not getting a computer option either

I think it's only available to Supporting Members at the moment, but will be available to everyone hopefully later today?

Good info! Thanks for sharing!

Hey, in the old days I took care of this by just kicking in some money on the first of each year. Made photo posting easy and put a few nickels into something I considered worth supporting.

All of which reminds me, I am not seeing where to go to throw a few more dollars into the hat by way of celebrating the new NAFEX?

Thank you Jenni for taking the time to make and post a tutorial. I really appreciate it.

I have now made it so all members can upload directly from the phone or CPU. No more external links. This used to be a perk for the Supporting members only. I have decided to make this available for every member to keep the information on NAFEX more secure and to allow for the forum to no rely on third party extensions. This will allow for NAFEX's information to always be here and not disappear.

Tom, I always appreciate the support. Thank you. I will get a donation link up soon. I will update when I do. I dont expect anyone to give me any money. I do this for the love of the community and the sport. For those that do help it shows me they too want to give back. So thank you to all who have in the past. Your generosity is greatly appreciate. I will come up with another perk for those that do. I think its a way to say thank you from me. Again, I will update as soon as I get the donation page linked up.

Please let me know if any of the members are not able to upload the pictures straight from the CPU or phone

Chris

Still not working for me but it may take a while to update? Also happy to contribute when the donate link goes up! I never realized that was a perk for donating haha.

Tried to load picture from computer, but it said invalid file.

can you tell me the file extension or it maybe too big?

take a photo with your phone of the error and post it here. Or screen print and post it.

It is a jpg. Just says DSCN1047.jpg Invalid file

forestfalcon

I've gotten the 'Invalid File' too on some pics. I don't really have a solution, other than air dropping the same pic from my phone to my iPad. I can't imagine that helps, but there it is.

Falconer54

I've tried five or six different pictures, all have said, Invalid file.

Chris L.
08-11-2017, 07:24 PM
Hmmmm it maybe the size of the picture. So try this. Right click and save the nafex banner to your desktop and then try and upload it here. If it loads then I will know its size and adjust the size limits.

Ok so it's the size of the photo. I will update the size limits. So now you can see you can upload from your CPU.

Hi Jenni:

I followed the instructions in your tutorial and posted a photo from my Droid smartphone with no problems. As already stated, keeping the file size of the photo within the given parameters is key. Thanks, I appreciate it.

No problem Rick. I'm sorry. You and I walked through everything I did, to the letter, to download your photo, but I'm using a new smartphone and you're trying to download pictures from your computer. There lies the rub, but I'm not sure how to fix it. It may have something to do with the photo software on your computer.

Fear not! Someone on here will eventually figure it out and help you. There's a generous amount of cerebral energy on this forum! :)

All my best,

Thank you Jason. I appreciate the kind words. It's the mods and add one that start to get into the code and figuring crap out.

Not sure why turning sideways. Let me see if it's a setting. I will update soon

Kieth,

So these I uploaded directly from my work CPU. No problems at all. I am guessing its something with your computer. There is nothing I can fix on my end as it is all working.
I am sorry this isnt much help but I dont know what else to do?

Chris L.
08-17-2017, 10:06 AM
Ok I changed the size settings... lets see if that helps you at all. Let me know what happens

KT can you retry the photo that wouldn't upload for you?

Chris

Chris L.

Why do the pictures automatically turn sideways?

it is the way the picture was originally taken. Your CPU and phone can sense the orientation and correct it for you. The forum does not have this capability. So the original orientation will be posted. There is a mod for this that I may add to the forum so this doesn't happen. I just don't like adding more stuff as it makes more problems in the end

Captain Gizmo
08-17-2017, 12:06 PM
On the old NAFEX I likewise found that I had to shoot the photo the way I wanted it to post. I could rotate it in my PC and it would save in the rotated position. When I posted from the saved photo it would display in the as originally shot orientation. Something I learned fairly quickly to work with. It did limit me to wider than high format, so I just had to give up on narrow and tall framing. I don't do much cropping of photos in processing software, so I don't know what the result of trying to post a "trimmed in software" photo would be. I don't know if there is a PC software that will allow you to remove the original camera orientation from the file.
