So I cut the coops loose. I ended up borrowing a friends' male Harris for the rest of the season, I've never been a fan of the HH but I must admit this little guy is rapidly changing my mind! Here are a few pictures from this last weekend.

Harris Hawks have a way of doing that to people.

I got one now, and want two! ;) maybe even 3 to pile onto swampers and everything else that dares to move!

I had a female several years ago that use to try to grab the tails of whitetail deer when they ran. The deer would turn 180 and snort and look at her. Then when they ran she was after them again. i would laugh like a crazey mancrazyy I often thought if I had a group like her I would have bigger quarry to skin!

amennn

I am feeling the same way with this red-tail. I love accipiters and thrive on their energy....but I am very happy to be flying this red-tail right now. I think it gives me time to re-energize myself for the intense focus that the accips require. I'm sure it is the same with a HH.

That's what I keep saying. This is the most relaxed hawking I've ever done, no coopers hawk inspired aneurysms every time I step into the field.

That's where I'm leaning for next season if I can work it out.

When things go "sideways" with my Gos, I just load up the HH and go kill some bunnies. Great game hawks, tough tail feathers, hard to loose. Alot of people never get another kind of hawk. Look at the UK Falconers. They are INSANE with HH's....:D

I'm sorry you had to miss it too. When are you moving out here? He is a great little chicken and I'm enjoying him to no end. (I can hear Paul laughing at me in my head as I type that) It's really nice to just have a bird that goes out and hunts hard and then comes back, I'm not quite sure how to handle it.

There's a lot to be said for that, Good looking bird by the way.

Out west I flew mainly accipiters where there were plenty of game birds and ducks. I have a fever for accipiters and always will. Plan on flying them again someday in the right enviroment and game.
But these HH hawks make you feel part of their team and you can fly them anywhere, any time, any weather and no stress, no bs, just hunt.
They work with ya!
They have a magical way and sometimes you see the accipiter in them.
Notice that burst of speed and the way that tiercel runs through the briars like a coopers! (personally I find that a pain in the butt, because the bunny usually runs out the other side) Non the less, their very athletic!

The older I get the more I want the basics and just going hunting! When the hunts all done, they go home with ya. Like a dog!

I've heard the term their a beginners bird, so be it! In the hands of an accomplished falconer, their deadly on all game!

Some of the best falconers I have ever known still fly HH's.

Have fun! Keep the cool pictures coming!
