Took my pointers out for a run today. This is Reba. She was flying through the field when she instantly spun around and strecthed out {1st picture} into a point. She held the point for a few seconds and then gathered herself {2nd picture} into a more upright position. I walked towards her and got to within 20 feet when this {3rd picture} jack took off running. Reba is really getting the hang of pointing rabbits although she still gets fooled by areas where the jacks have been hiding and are not there anymore.

No, they do not chase the rabbit. Reba learned the hard way that it was not her job to chase the rabbit. She was taken to the ground a couple of times by a female golden eagle I was flying. She wasn't hurt, but, it taught her not to chase anymore.

Don't worry about hijacking the thread. My threads always welcome new stuff and the more pictures that are posted, the better it is for the rest of this falconry forum. My pointers are Miller Silver Bullet/ Spector Sam lines. Reba is 4 years old.

Sorry Jim, I got the two mixed up (there descriptions). I have always loved the Millers lines. That Silver Bullet is a dinamo dog. Good luck with her. I have had a couple of dogs out of that line and had great success with them. The last one some one stole. The good ones always end up gone. Thanks Stephen

Stephen, Thanks, he is just a great dog. I had him out on the desert yesterday. He had a great run and he looks just great cruising through the sagebrush. He has a high visablility factor along with a great working pattern. There is still a lot of pup in him right now. He is just fascinated with everything that flys.

Bill,

I'm dragging out an old thread here, but I was just looking back through NAFEX, trying to see who had pointers in their homes/kennels. Anyway, I noticed that you said your dog came out of Magoo and Strike lines. I've got a close friend here in Maine (who is also a falconer) who runs a dog that is heavily out of the Magoo line (pictures below). I thought you'd get a charge out of seeing shots of a related pointer. It was a great line of dogs. If I remember correctly, when Bob Wehle started the Elhew line back in the 30's, he began with a Scottish dog called "Lexington Jake." Wehle was a very good geneticist, and had previous experience with roosters/horses/etc.. Anyway, at the end of his life, the best dogs that he was producing for foot hunters were all coming out of Magoo, Strike, and Kiwi. A lot of folks were really into his "Snakefoot" dogs, but those were really better suited to horseback field trail stuff. I really wish that he was still alive, and still working from that line of dogs that came down from his good foot-hunting stock. It's sad to know the the Elhew line basically died with him.

Anyway,.... I'm getting off track.

very nice dog!! Yeah, i really do love the dog i have. I would get another just like her if i could. She had some health issues with her eyes when i first got her(cherry eye or 3rd eye prolapse) I called the kennels that i got her from to inform them of it. I did not want a refund or another dog, i just wanted to inform them of the issue and watch the pups coming out of those dogs as i was told that it COULD be genetic. The owners of the kennel got very upset with me, and we parted ways on a sour note. I would not buy from them again anyhow, but i hate having bad relations hanging out there like that. To this day i have never gotten a straight answer about whether that condition is genetic or brought on by other variables(dirt in the eye causing infection and then prolapse) Although, at the time my dog had to be treated for the prolapse(both eye's) she had yet to spend anytime in the field(she was only 11 weeks old) doing any serious training(all in the yard with a pigeon or quail wing on a string) anyway, i really enjoy looking at the E.pointers. And like i said Scott, real bird dogs have tails!!! how else are you suppose to see them in the thigh high switchgrass pointing a bird??? lol....
