I am planning on pulling a 27 day old Peregrine this year. Does any one have any pictures of 27 day old, or close, birds they could post.

I may have some personal pictures too. When are you going to pull? This month?

I click on it and can't get it to open.

The take opens May 01 but where the good eyries are they wont be ready until the end of May. The birds here close to home are probably ready by May 01 but are heavily watched. There are a couple of eyries but I feel taking one of the chicks would be unethical.

Lucky for me the birds in AZ, probably everywhere, seem to breed/hatch based on temperature. I live in the hot desert and they are ready early. Then it's a bit cooler in the mountains to the southeast so they are ready around the end of may. Then a bit north around mid june and finally up north around the first of July.

It leaves a lot of time to find what you are looking for. That being said last year I struck out every where. We found hags south but no eyrie. Went to an eyrie with a dead chick inside, ravens or owls, I suspect. Then an eyrie a bit north only had 2 chicks and a friend took 1 so that left me out. Then I went to 2 further north too late and there were 4 or 5 eyases spread out around one eyrie. I saw 3 on the canyon wall and could hear 1 or 2 more n the bottom. Then the last 1 I went to she was on eggs the weekend the take closed last year. Whether they were fertile eggs or not I don't know.

I hope this year is better if I, hmm hmm, we, (translates to spousal permission) need another bird.

I can give you as many pictures as you need. You will need mostly pictures of tail feathers probably as I would think that is the most consistent indicator of age. I would be glad to give them to you in a range from like 21 days to 30 days if you would like.

I would recommend, if possible, that you get pictures of CB peregrines too so the age isn't a guess on the photos.

Wes, if you have time and could post or send me pictures I would appreciate it. I look at many of the falcon cam nests to look at age also but most of them don't have high quality cameras or pictures so its hard to tell.

Matt,

You may want to check these out from Jim's last year. If you haven't already it is great stuff. Thank's Jim.

Jeez Tom, I looked for those earlier and couldn't find them. I appreciate it. Thanks to you also Jim. Amazing what 10 days will do for a bird at that age isn't it.

If you don't mind posting them keep 'em coming. State law says if they are taken from a nest they have to be between 18 and 27 days old but I enjoy looking at the pictures. I find it very impressive how a few days changes them so much.

Wes, is this a bird you are raising right now or are these pics from a previous season? I can't remember if you mentioned having a new falcon this year or not...

I doubt I write a thread on him. Writing a thread on imprinting can really leave you open to people taking shots at you sometimes and I just don't know that I really want to do that this year.confusedd
