Just picked up about two a.m. yesterday morning in Salt Lake. This bird was bred by Mathew Kirkwood. As you can see he is a beautiful dark bird. He is extreamly calm and just accepts what is going on around him. He weighs 850 grams. I am excited to fly him. Thanks Mathew. Great looking bird, what are your plans as far a game?

Here in South central Idaho, I have all sorts of opportunity for game. But mainly ducks, and sage grouse. Here we have Huns, chuckers, pheasants, ducks sage grouse, shaptails and quail. Not to mention all kinds of fur for short and broadwingers. What is it like where you are? Stephen

Steve:
In my area I am limited to squirrels. Very few rabbits. To much big
water for ducks. No upland game birds.

My Daughter has flown 2 that looked a lot like that. Do you intend to train him to wait on?

I will start his kite trainning here shortly. I love the affects of a high flying bird that was trained on a kite. I have had realy great success with this methode. I use a 8' Delta Box kite that I can adjust the attatchment on the keel of the kite. Works AWESOME!! How about you?

Steve:
Why not go into your profile and add your name auto to you post.
I see Jeff also add the state witch makes it nice. There is getting to
be a lot of different people posting and the stage name just do not
connect. An 8 foot kite, do you use a auto winder?

I tried it 1 season with some of the boys in Sheridan. The bird was an Imprint Gyr Falcon. I left in early Oct., the results were less than good. It seemed, at the time, that it worked well with the birds that did not need it. The ones that would go up with out it. Jeff in Wyo

Tell us about the stock, where did the parent birds come from? Jeff in Wyo.

Bill,
I told Goose the news and he's pouting now because you've chose a different male... Is it because he likes rabbits? Do you have something against chasing the furred kind? [smilie=smileys13.gif]

How can she deny this face?

Why do you think that is?

Well i can tell Goose is upset, he screams everytime i go to see him to express his sadness [smilie=icon_thumright.gif]

Ev, were you referring to why people are flying gyr/sakers? If so, i think it's b/c they are big bad flying beasts that kill everything with fur and feathers [smilie=icon_pidu.gif] It also seems like there were a lot of them made this year

I have a 3/4 tiercel. He is going through his 1st moult. I have found him slow to start. Hope he will pan out, early this season.

Hey there Jeff, I have also heard that they are slow to start, but once they have a couple of years on them, LOOK OUT. My onld sponser in Utah (Steve Smith) has killed a sage grouse on the first flight of the year for about 10 years with his G/S tiercel until last when he hit a fense and was killed. I have alway heard that they just take a little time. Thanks Stephen

I too have heard not to expect great amounts the first season or two, but year three plus they really turn on.

I have no doubt that what you are saying is true. I have been spoiled flying the 3/4 part part(same stock) and he was everything that the hyberd was not, even in the first season. He was user friendly, high flying, game almost beyond belief and caught sharptails his first season.
