REDTAIL RUMBLE 2007 mini-meet
November 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
Joe Kurz WMA - Meriwhether county, GA.

Directions: From Woodbury: Take Hwy 85 north for 7.5 miles to Gay; turn
right at red light; check station is 2.7 miles on left. Campground is just
past check station on left.

A map of the WMA can be found here:
http://www.georgiaoutdoors.com/hunting/WMAmaps/JoeKurz.pdf

Squirrels will be the main quarry, and there has always been PLENTY for
everyone. There are some rabbits as well, but you'll have to get in
the thick stuff to find them.

If you have dogs as part of your hunting team, please feel free to
bring them. However, please keep in mind that not all birds will
tolerate dogs while hunting. Please be sure and bring a leash or a crate to
contain your dogs while other birds are flying.

Keep in mind that this is a state WMA and you're required to have a
WMA stamp, as well as a small game license.

Members of the DNR will be invited to this meet, so bring your "A"-game.

This mini-meet is not associated with any falconry club.
All falconers are invited.

Mark your calenders. Tell your friends and your enemies.
And feel free to post this invitation on other sites.

If you have any questions, please contact me at cuda67bnl@yahoo.com
Or call 770-554-5406

I will be there for sure jimmy.. thanks for posting it. Do we need to bring any food or drinks?

How about out of state licenses, what will I need?

Jimmy

This is a camping meet. There aren't any hotels very close by, so you'll need basic gear to get you through the weekend. Food would be a good idea, unless you're trying to imitate Jenny Craig. [smilie=eusa_sick.gif] License info can be found here http://georgiawildlife.dnr.state.ga.us/content/displaycontent.asp?txtDocument=31

Jimmy

Trust me, Chris. I don't want to be in your tent. I'd hate to be the cause of your divorce, and you aren't even married..... [smilie=smileys13.gif]
Besides, I'll be staying in the Nut Hut.

I am looking forward to it.. Maybe we can get that damn sissy Tony to come out and rough it in the woods as well? How about T, you gonna come you?

Jen said she would be there... It should be a lot of fun.

Hey Jimmy does the camp ground have showers and such?

Jimmy
08-11-2007, 07:56 PM
Tony said he might make it.
My wife and daughter will be there, so at least Jen will have another female to talk to.
This is a camping meet, Chris. Not the frigging Hilton. No amenities or facilities whatsoever. Imagine camping in my back yard, minus all my junk, and you'll get the idea. We'll be slumming it all the way. But, I can probably find a hotel for you if you want to drive a little ways.

Oh its that bad huh [smilie=eusa_doh.gif] ... No worries we will make do. You mentioned a camp ground, thought they may have some facilities

Jimmy

It's a primitive campground. Basically just a field by a small pond.
That's how we have mini-meets down here.

I googled nearby hotels and the closest one is 20 miles away.
I can get their info for you if you want it.

It is like the WWE Royal Rumble where the last RT gets a huge belt to wear over it shoulder?

Geez Darrell....... Comparing falconry to wrestling is just wrong........ [smilie=smileys13.gif]

I was at a NAFA in Colorado many years ago as a 2nd year apprentice. Some guy (some falconer) tried persuading me to fly my RT with about 10-20 other people with RT all at the same time in the same field going after the same quarry.

I didn't think that was the brightest idea and I kindly declined.

Is this Rumble something similar.

Jimmy... you must like dental work. It sure feels like I am starting to pull teeth.

LOL...

I don't know...

I've seen some videos of birds on rabbits that would put Hulk Hogan and The Rock to shame.

Just a bunch of dirt hawkers getting together and having a good time! Though, this will be my first year there, but I am really looking forward to it! I got into falconry RIGHT at the end of last season, so I have yet to see anyone else's bird actually catch game! Saw Jimmy's wife's bird hunt once, but we didn't get anything that day.

I wouldn't call what she did that day, hunting.... [smilie=BangHead.gif]
She's tuned up now though. You'll get to see excellence this weekend [smilie=icon_pidu.gif]

Wow!!! We had an awesome time this weekend.

Doug, myself and the 3 youngest ones drove down Saturday for the rumble. There was a flock of raptors there at the camp site. What a cool thing to see. We pulled up to an early morning (9am) camp fire, folks sitting around having breakfast, encircled by 6 BOP teathered to their perchs.

This was our first time out and it was awesome. Every outing yielded game and it was the coolest thing I've ever seen. Doug kept the boys for the first two trips into the field and then he went out once as well. By midafternoon, 4 trips into the field had yielded 3 squirrels and one bunny.

We picked up some great equipment. Jimmy has some fine gloves, bells and leashes. [smilie=icon_thumright.gif] Now we just have to pass the test and get a sponser. We are stoked. This has got to be the best sport on the planet.

Thanks to Jimmy and everyone else out there. [smilie=eusa_clap.gif] We had the best time and look forward to next year - hopefully our birds will fly as well as all those we met this weekend.

Doug and I are scheduled to take the test on Nov 19. Wish us luck. The guy we spoke to said we will still have plenty of time to trap this season. So we'll be on the hunt for a sponsor or two REAL soon.

Thanks Again for an Awesome Time!

I'm glad you had a good time, Reba.
We made it look pretty easy, didn't we? You saw a good example of how things should go. But that isn't always what happens.
Today was a success as well. We added a couple more to the weekend headcount, including another bunny. Everyone took game this weekend, and you can't ask for much more than that. I had a great time, as always. And I'm already looking forward to next year.
I think Dave got some decent pics, so maybe he'll post them when he gets some time.

The RTR '07 was a great success! I had an awesome time! Jimmy's dogs were a HUGE help, especially Copper who had to have found no less than ten squirrels for us! We didn't always get the ones he found but we always put in a chase. He's got a real good eye for the tree rats!

It was also great to double Neco's kill total for the year (bringing it to 4 now) with the help of the dogs and the other falconers. He also flew down a bagged pheasant in a pretty cool 150 or so yard flight. He seems to really have a taste for feathers, so I am hoping that will translate into at least one duck kill this season.

Here's the pictures in no particular order...

The Lizard picture is fantastic.

He's taking on the Giant and not lettin' go. He's bigger than you and he's going to kick your A _ S.!

I nearly died when I saw that one.

CLASSIC..
