I'm a new member around here and noticed your comment about the Chatbox and weather it's going to be removed, I have a couple suggestions. I've been involved in a few small community websites and have seen them thrive or fail depending on implementation. First, I don't think "the" chatbox in the forums section is a bad idea, it just may get more use if the implementation were different. Think of it this way, when one clicks on the forum link, they intend to browse the forums or post there not chat. My first suggestion is either a) make it persistent throughout the site including the main page, or b) have it reside on the main page so it's visible to everyone right away. Secondly, the type of chatbox in use is pretty generic. There are other types available that may be more conducive to chatter. The most important thing I've noticed is, chatbox's that display which users have joined the chat tend to get more traffic. That's literally my two bits on the subject. I hope it helps.
