Lew, have you been hunting lately. I've been out a couple times last week with my newest Female Redtail, Raker. She slipped on two rabbits but they were just too quick and cover too close.
Back in the saddle again. Unfortunately, I lost my first bird due to an untreatable eye infection. I took a year learning more about avian health and diseases. Trapped 1200g female this past weekend....
Thanks Dennis. I'll give that a shot. Much appreciated.
Thanks. I sure will. Also, all I had for trade off was strips of beef heart. Now I'll have a partial squirrel leg, fur and all. That may help.
Happy Holidays everyone (late). Yesterday was a great day. My passage Male Redtail Tazer made his debut pursue and seize his very first gray squirrel. Man, he did not want to let it go! After...
Yeah Jarrett. Welcome to the fun. I've only been an apprentice for a couple months but I'm loving menning my very first male Redtail Hawk named Tazer. Coming along fine.
Wow! After 11 LONG days, my male passage RT finally jumped to the glove. It was (is) a true test of patience. 11 days for the first jump, 30 seconds for the second jump. Hopefully progression will be...
Day 7- My newly acquired male Red Tail (Tazer) FINALLY ate something tonight. He took a 1/2 mouse from my free hand. He let it hang for about 2 minutes. When he knew it was cool to devour it, he...
Hey Greg, I have a quick question for all you falconry veterans. When you are manning your passage redtail for the first time, when and how do you feed him his first meal? What I mean is, do you...

I know what you mean Raymond. Down here in South Louisiana its been beautiful during the entire work week and crummy on weekends. I am working on an outdoor weathering area and permanent mews....
Woohoo! Sponsor went trapping and caught a beautiful male redtail. I'm helping to man the bird. What an experience! I'm able to take up and put down on perch and scale for weighing quite easily. Only...
Thanks. I'll probably be more interested in the bird on the perch rather than the bird on the table (with fixings). Lol
I'm in the same boat except I just passed my mews and equipment inspection. My permit should be in my hand before Thanksgiving. Man, am I excited!
Completed mews and equipment inspection today. All went good. I have a couple of things to take care of before 90 days, but they guaranteed me I'll have my permit by Thanksgiving. NOW I'M AMPED! ...
Oh yeah, I'm amped. As soon as I get through the preliminaries, I'll post some pictures of the simple (but effective) setup.
My facility inspection is scheduled for this coming Friday. Its getting so close, I can taste it.

Will do. Been hitting high 90s on all my practice exams.
This is it! The day has come. I take my test tomorrow. I think I'm ready.

Thank you all. Yep, a lot of work, but a lot of fun I'm predicting.

I am a 56 year young Louisiana newbie to the sport that has always fascinated me. I'm looking forward to participating in this awesome sport for the remainder of my days.
