    Default Hello from Texas

Hello everyone my name is Christin I live in Buda Texas. I'm 21 years old and am looking to get started in the art flog falconry I recently just bought a new home in the end of 2014. I'm in the process of learning everything I can about the sport.
Behind my new home is about 500 acres of open farm fields and all around me is large filds good for hunting.
What got me into thinking about falconry was the shows that you see at renaissance festivals where they show the birds off as well as talk about the sport and how it has evolved into what we know today.

Here's a little about me. I own 2 dogs one is 11 the other one is one years old.
I have a 160 gallon reef tank. That I just set up after Christmas.

I'm looking for any and all help.
    Thank you
    Christian Shirrell

Welcome Christian. I am north of Austin but not flying this year due to Motorcycle wreck. There are a number of falconers in the Austin area. Start by checking out the Texas Hawking Association website. THA.org

It's was not meant to be off putting it was supposed to be a simple question about the license to keep a falcon.

I just what to learn about falconry

Easiest way to get contacts is to join THA and use the member's list to find people. That's what I did sometimes, particularly earlier on when I didn't have many contacts. Or you could try emailing or calling the apprentice coordinator; that's also pretty easy. Or the southern director.

Best way to deal with internet falconers / naysayer / people who jump on your case is to avoid the internet / falconry forums. In my experience, falconers are generally a hundred times more friendly in person (I'm not exaggerating very much), particularly if they're the THA gregarious type you'd find through the coordinators.
