That would be great Chris. It would probably be good to let the campground know. I'm definately curious.

    Ryan,

I'll check on th BBQ thing. I was actually thinking of bringing a small one just in case because i didn't plan on eating at resturants every night myself.
I'm not exactly sure on the number of people. At last count i knew of 11 that are planning on camping that i know of. There may be others that i just havn't talked to.

I think the camping idea sounds really cool and I'd love to swing by to hang out a bit but... I already got my room reserved so I'm not gonna cancel it now.

It might be cool if the poll showed which hotel people were staying at but... not a big deal. I was just trying to pull up the web site for the Dodge House (dodgehousehotel.com) and it just has a message: "HACKED BY ISKORPION SALDIRI.NET" WTF???

I'm planning to stay at LaQuinta because the Dodge house only had smoking rooms available when I called.

btw - I called LaQuinta to verify my reservation and they told me $114 for a non-smoking room w/ 2 queen sized beds. Ouch. Dodge House had quoted me $84 but it's a smoking room (all they had left). I figure I'll check with La Quinta when I get there about a rate adjustment to the group discount if one is negotiated by then... I thought Chris mentioned his room rate was going to be $90 so I'll keep my fingers crossed. I figured I wanted to be in one of these 2 hotels so I can walk/crawl to and from the hotel bar as needed.

Last I heard, the other hotels would match the room rate if you mentioned you were with the falconers. You might want to call them back. Let me know if you have problems and I will give Kevin another heads up.

Super 8 for me. I'd stay at the meet hotel except the pet fee is outrageous.

oh and they only had smoking rooms left.

    Ryan,

Sorry I forgot to come back to this. I did confirm with the campground that the area they are putting us in has two free standing BBQ grills. The camp manager said that we would be allowed a fire ring based on the weather. So if there has been some snow or rain she said we would be good with the fire ring at night if not then just the BBQ grills.
So really all we are missing with this place is a warm room LOL. It has the hot showers, general store, laundry facility, indoor restrooms hell it even has a bait shop so we could do some fishing in our down time if we wanted to.
I confirmed the group for the 20th through the 26th. She said its fine if we end up with more or less people and the dates are very flexible for when people come and go. Everyone will just need to check in whenever they get there and let them know they are with the NAFA group to make sure we all end up in the same spot. I told her i knew of at least 15 as of today.
I'm excited, this should be fun.

Right? heat is over rated. In all seriousness if you want there is still plenty of room in the wall tent. There are only four of us in there as of now maybe five but it sleeps eight pretty easy on cots and the pot belly stove keeps things nice and toasty.

Thanks Chad! I'll take you up on that! I don't have a cot, so it'll just be a sleeping bag for me.

    David,

Here's the website for the campground: http://www.campingfriend.com/watersportscampgroundandrvpark/

It's got the location and everything. It's really close to the hotel.

Sleeping bags work just fine. I'll be getting there mid day on the 20th and leaving on the 24th. probably sometime after breakfast and maybe a morning flight. So as long as i am there you have a place to sleep.

For those that have been to the dodge city meet, how is getting permission to hunt? Are the land owners welcoming to falconers? I do not have a problem with knocking on doors to get some land to hunt.

Does NAFA secure any land for the meet?

Where are you all finding rabbits there? Is it best to go industrial or to a farm? Inside the city or how far out the city?

How about the ducks? what types or water do you find them on. Do they have stock tanks in dodge city?

I'm trying to get a game plan of where to hunt there.

NAFA has rotated its Meets through a series of small towns over the years. Dodge City has always been a hospitable place and the game has been pretty good. KS landowners are generally affable and open to hunters who are polite and considerate. At every NAFA Meet I've attended (pushing 40 now), they've had people working with the locals to secure land for a variety of quarry. Maps are put up and there is usually a list of landowner names, permission and hunting policies on those properties, etc. Sometimes there is a hunt master who helps organize this and/or a designated local for the same. It's generally considered poor form to hunt anywhere at all near the Meet hotel weathering yard. Don't forget KS has pretty good pheasant hunting; but these days expect some landowners of course will lease for them and/or otherwise restrict hunting them; same sometimes occurs for deer, but I'm not aware of any conflicts with deer season.

Where are you all finding rabbits there? Is it best to go industrial or to a farm? Inside the city or how far out the city?

Both, and since I drive all that way to NOT hunt in town like back home, I prefer"country hawking". Rabbits are in windbreaks, farm machinery, irrigation pipe piles, etc. Jacks are always spotty, but usually plentiful when you do find them.

How about the ducks? what types or water do you find them on. Do they have stock tanks in dodge city?

Small ponds and stock tanks, as you'd expect, offer the best slips and there's always some already identified. You might want to use something like Google Earth and a good GPS unit that can handle longitude/latitude inputs to find more. Don't forget to look for irrigation/drainage ditches.

I'm trying to get a game plan of where to hunt there.

You can usually find some folks at the weathering yard or the night before who know the area and will be happy to take you out. I've heard NAFA's NAFEX contingent (and others) are real friendly. And there are ALWAYS locals who come out to the weathering yard to take pictures who, if you talk w/them, sometimes will invite you out to their place or a friend's.

Weather is normally good, but it can me windy (best on those days to hunt early and late), and hope there isn't one of those infamous KS blizzards when it's time to go home. LOL!
Well, Chris, I hope I've helped you.
