    Default Hello from Pennsylvania

    Hello everyone.

I have been researching falconry for a few years and after my wife (a veterinary technician) brought home a red tailed hawk(keeping it overnight to care for after being hit by a car) on it's way to a local wildlife rescue which was closed for the day I decided there's no better time than now to get further into it.

I'm currently awaiting the receipt of my PA falconry packet and researching local ordinances. I am also waiting response from the PA Falconry and Hawk Trust on local apprenticeship programs.

I work in green building products and systems most in R&D/Engineering but do a lot of other things for my company. I am an avid fly fisherman, hunter, backpacker, and geocacher. I love the outdoors and wildlife and would love to extend that to this majestic tradition.

I look forward to learning from everyone and getting my feet wet, so to speak!

Hi Greg...welcome to Nafex! I am sure Jack Hubley or the director from your region will be in touch with you. Not sure if you saw it but the meet info is posted at the pfht.org website.

What part of PA are you from?

    Take care!

My wife and I live in Pine Grove (Near Berks county border in Schuylkill County.) We are about 45 minutes north of Harrisburg off 81. My wife knows Jack Hubley through her work and we had attended a "game dinner" at which he was there doing discussion and doing a small seminar on falconry. We were planning on giving him a call in the eventful future.

It's great to see that the support exists in the community. It's always disheartening when a tradition lacks the community support necessary. It seems that everyone is willing to help in the falconry world.

I am sure Jack will be in touch. I am in Horsham not far from Josh. Send me a PM if you have any questions...and I will try to help if I know the answer.

    Take care!

Also I saw the PFHT field meet is coming up the first weekend in January. Do you know the contact for someone involved with that to learn about perhaps driving up for a day just to learn because it seems like the sheet on the website is primarily for staying for the event? It's only about 45 minutes from me so I could easily make a nice day trip out of it.

    Thanks again!

    Greg,

Please attend the meet in Lewisburg. You'll learn a lot, and probably get put in touch with folks that will end up being instrumental in getting you into falconry. It will be a good time. For more information about it, contact Mike Dupuy at mike@mikedupuyhawkfood.com

If you make it, find me in the crowd, and introduce yourself. I'll be there with a peregrine and a goshawk, and will probably have a red NAFA hat on. Speaking of NAFA (North American Falconers' Association), you should consider joining. www.n-a-f-a.com

Welcome to the finest field sport in the world!

I had e-mailed Mike Dupuy yesterday evening (the contact information was sent to me by PM via a member here although you did provide a different e-mail for him than I was originally given) I just resent that e-mail to this address too in case one of them is incorrect! I would like to visit the event at least one of the days!

I had the NAFA form up about week ago but it asks for a reference from:

    regular member of NAFA
two persons who know you in your local falconry club

Which at this point I don't really have anyone that meets those requirements.

I really do appreciate all the response!
